Hyperfocused Distractions with Mycophilia, Mycophobia, and Ethnomycology
Greg Sanchez, Colorado Mycological Society

The focus of this talk will not necessarily be on any specific genus or species, but rather the social and cultural attitudes and perspectives humans have with mushrooms. This talk will include a brief overview/review of the study of Ethnomycology (Human relationships with mushrooms and fungi) and various roles mushrooms play and have played in human cultures. Using both historical and contemporary examples, we will examine positive, negative, as well as neutral perceptions humans have with mushrooms.

Jill Easterday

Jill Easterday has a masters degree in environmental management with a focus in mycoremediation. She is currently the president of the Bay Area Applied Mycology as well as a member of both the San Francisco Mycological Society and the Sonoma County Mycological Association. Jill is employed at The Odin, a company that sells DIY biohacking kits and is pleased to be working with Ecovative developing a new fungi kit. In her free time she enjoys playing with bioluminescent organisms.
